How does a person get to heaven?
If you ask people this question, they might say something like “If I do more good things than bad things, God will probably let me into heaven”. This kind of thinking will simply reserve you a place in hell. There are no good deeds that we can do that will erase the sins that we have committed. In the Bible, God tells us what we need to do is to get into right relationship with Him so that we can go to heaven. You are about to read the most important information that you will ever read.
It is called the Gospel, or the “Good News”.
The Bible says that nobody is good enough to get into heaven. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23 I don’t care how many good deeds that you do, you still cannot enter eternal life. Isaiah 64:6 “But we are all like an unclean thing, and all our righteousness is like filthy rags; We all fade as a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.” According to this verse in Isaiah 64:6, we still come up short even when we try to do good deeds. We are sinners, and God is Holy. By His very nature, God cannot have fellowship with sin, otherwise He would condone sin by tolerating it in His presence. Every one of us has sinned, repeatedly. It is our nature. There is no amount of “good” that we can do to make up for our sins and trespasses against God’s Holy Law. Sin must be punished by a righteous God. We deserve the death penalty. This includes both the physical death (the body separated from the soul) and spiritual death (the soul separated from God and cast into hell for an eternity). Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” God does not want us to go to hell.
Ezekiel 33:11 "Say to them: ‘As I live,’ says the Lord GOD, ‘I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn, turn from your evil ways!
2 Peter 3:9 “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” God loves you and made a way for you to escape damnation and receive eternal life. His Son is your provision. The world’s greatest love story is summed up in the following verses:
John 3:16-17 "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.”
God’s Son, Jesus Christ, came to this earth to die for your sins so that you can escape hell and go to heaven. Jesus paid the price for our sins and died for us that we might have life in Him.
1 John 1:7 “But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.”
Hebrews 10:10-12 “By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. And every priest stands ministering daily and offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God,”
After His death on the cross, Jesus’ Body laid in the grave three days, but praise be to God, it did not remain there. On the third day Jesus rose from the dead and was seen by over 500 witnesses (1 Corinthians 15:6) before He rose to heaven. Jesus was God’s sacrificial Lamb (Genesis 22:8, John 1:29) but was not a helpless victim. He is the eternal God & Saviour who came to earth and gave His own Blood for your sins. After He accomplished this wonderful feat, He rose from the dead just as He said He would.
John 10:17-18 "Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again. No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from My Father."
1 Corinthians 15:3-4 “ For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures,”
Salvation In order to receive eternal life and an eternity in heaven, you must
1. Confess that you are a sinner
2. Believe that Jesus died for your sins and was buried; and
3. Believe that He rose from the dead on the third day.
4. Confess Jesus as your Lord & Saviour
Romans 10:9-10 “that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
Ephesians 2:8-9 “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.”
Romans 5:1 “Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,”
Jesus waits with open arms for those who want His gift of eternal life. The choice is yours. If you are tired of your guilt and sin, if you want a fulfilling life free of the fear of death and hell, put your faith and trust in the only One who can help you – JESUS.
Do you want to receive Jesus now? If so, pray this little prayer from your heart and say to Him: “Dear God, I am a sinner. I want forgiveness for my sins and a new life in Jesus. I want to receive what Jesus provided for me at the cross. I want to be everything that you created me to be. I believe that Jesus died for me that I may have life. I believe that He rose from the dead so that I may have the hope of resurrection in Him. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart as my Lord & Saviour. Thank you, Jesus, for saving my soul I pray this prayer in the Name of Jesus. "
If you have received Jesus as your Lord & Saviour, as a Christian, you need to grow in your relationship with Him:
1. Read your Bible daily. Psalm 119:105 “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
2. Talk to God in prayer daily. Matthew 21:22 “And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive."
3. Be baptized. Matthew 28:19 “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,”
4. Tell others about Jesus. Romans 10:10 “ For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
5. Attend worship and Bible study at a Bible-believing Church.
